Ryan Lynch is an early Islamic historian who works on the Umayyad and ‘Abbasid periods and the early Islamic conquests. Much of his research on these periods focuses on the Arabic historiographical tradition and, especially, the writings of the historian al-Baladhuri.
He wrote his DPhil (PhD) dissertation on al-Baladhuri’s Futuh al-Buldan at the University of Oxford, where he was a student of Robert Hoyland.
