Q: Why can’t I find information about the modern Middle East and current affairs?

A: MEM focuses on the “medieval” period broadly conceived (ca. 500-1500 CE), not on the Modern Middle East. For more about MEM and its goals, please click here. For additional resources on the modern Middle East please visit the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) website here.

Q: Where is the jobs section?

Q: How do I access MEM’s journal Al-‘Usur al-Wusta?

A: This is a MEMbers Only section. It is only accessible to MEMbers whose dues are paid. You will need a userid and password which can be obtained by e-mailing the secretary at:

Q: I am a MEMber of Middle East Medievalists, but I cannot access the journal, Al-‘Usur al-Wusta. What should I do?

A: This may mean that your MEMbership dues are not current. Please e-mail MEM’s Secretary ( who will be glad to assist you.

Q: How do I receive a copy of Al-‘Usur al-Wusta: The Bulletin of Middle East Medievalists?

A: Starting in November 2014, Al-‘Usur al-Wusta will become an online journal. You will be notified via email when a new issue of the journal becomes available.

Q: I am a MEMber of Middle East Medievalists. How do I update the information listed in the on-line MEMber directory?
